The idea originated along the coast, watching shore crabs navigate rocks with their claws raised high. Back in the studio, we explored a practical challenge: turning that posture into a functional pen rest.

Balancing heavy writing instruments requires precision. A top-heavy fountain pen easily tips if the base lacks proper mass or posture. We relied on 3D printing to iterate quickly. Early FDM printing tests allowed us to fine-tune stance width and center of gravity. Once balanced, a high-detail resin print captured the shell texture before casting in lost-wax brass. This systematic custom product design process transformed an eccentric concept into a durable desk object.
